Key Areas for Students in Derby

The University of Derby manages seven halls of residence. Each of these, along with the University campus and the city centre, forms a major hub for students in Derby.

Agard Court

One of the more modern halls of residence, having first opened in 2018. It’s situated about 30 minutes’ walk away from the main Kedleston Road campus, but just two minutes away from the city centre. So this is an excellent choice for any students looking for a vibrant university experience!

Darley Bank

Darley Bank is a little closer to the main University campus. It’s also pretty close to certain key University sites, including Markeaton Street, Britannia Mill, and Friar Gate Square. And it’s not a million miles away from the city centre, making it a good choice for students who want to feel like they’re right in the centre of the action.

Flamsteed Court

Flamsteed Court is very near the University’s main Kedleston Road site, so is ideal for any students who need convenient access to the library, Students’ Union, and Sports Centre.

Nunnery Court, Peak Court and Princess Alice Court

Recently refurbished, Nunnery Court is conveniently located to all of the main University sites, as nowhere is more than 20 minutes’ walk away. Nunnery Court also offers a scenic courtyard for outdoor socialising.

Peak Court and Princess Alice Court are also nearby, which gives the whole area a fun and friendly student feel. There are some nice bars and pubs in the area too, including Dubrek Studios and The Woodlark.

St Cristopher’s Court

St Christopher’s Court might be close to most of the main University sites. But its biggest appeal is its proximity to Markeaton Park, a sprawling stretch of green space with scenic walking routes, a high-ropes course, and acres of playing fields. So this might be the best choice for active students, or for anyone who values their outdoor time.

What is There to Do in Derby?

Derby offers some excellent museums and galleries, many wonderful shops, bars and restaurants, and a number of exciting seasonal events.

But one of the best things about the city is that the beautiful Peak District is only a short bus or train ride away. So if you ever need a break from your studying, within half an hour or so you can find yourself immersed in some of the most wonderful landscape in the UK.
